Fast Track Orientation Program

For new graduates and Re-Entry Nurses:

Our Fast Track orientation program is part of a broader concept of clinical career mapping in which your satisfaction in your specialty of nursing is highly valued.

Fast Track is an opportunity for new and re-entry nurses to orient to medical surgical nursing with a declared interest in moving to a specialty area.

Through a close working relationship with your unit director and assigned preceptor, you will develop critical thinking skills. Your role development will be assessed on an individual basis to evaluate your progress. The time spent in this learning process is variable, depending upon your experience and learning. In the mean time, you are encouraged to shadow RNs in your specialty unit of choice, working with a mentor to gain knowledge of the unique competencies and culture of that unit. Once medical-surgical experience is gained and competence is achieved and there is a position open in the specialty unit, you are eligible to apply to the specialty area.

Your ongoing career development is important to us. At any point you may map your career in nursing to include staying within your unit or transferring to another. When a position becomes available in your specialty of choice, you are eligible to apply and, depending upon experience mix on the specialty unit, you will be strongly considered. The directors of the medical surgical unit and the specialty unit work together to facilitate your transfer.
